Dr. Md. Masud Rana is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), School of Science and Technology, State University of Bangladesh (SUB). He earned his Ph.D. in Bioinformatics (Specialization: Data Science) from the National Genomics Data Center, Beijing Institute of Genomics (BIG), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), under the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS), Beijing, China. He completed his M.Sc. in Statistics with research specialization in Computational Biology and his B.Sc. in Statistics from the University of Rajshahi, Bangladesh.
Dr. Rana has extensive experience in teaching, research, and applied data science. Prior to joining the SUB, he served as a Teaching and Research Associate at Naif Arab University for Security Sciences, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Previously, he worked as a Research Scientist at the China National Center for Bioinformation (CNCB), Beijing, China, and also worked as a Freelance Data Scientist and Developer in Sydney, Australia.
His research interests include Statistical Learning, Big Data Analytics, Deep Learning and Large Language Models (LLMs), Biostatistics, Bioinformatics, Toxicogenomics, Forensic DNA Phenotyping, DNA-Based 3D Facial Recognition, software package development, and scientific computing and programming using R and Python. His work integrates statistical modeling, machine learning, artificial intelligence, and genomic data science to develop advanced computational methods and software solutions for biomedical and forensic applications.
Dr. Rana has published research articles in internationally recognized journals, including Bioinformatics, Frontiers in Genetics, and BioMed Research International, and serves as a reviewer for several international scientific journals. He is a Life Member of the Bangladesh Bioinformatics and Computational Biology Association.
